Techically, it is not a discussion between faith and lack of faith, but between conflicting faiths. A believer has faith that God exists; an Atheist has faith that there is no god. Both positions depend on a concept of a God. If the debaters were required to defining the god they believed -- or didn't believe -- in, perhaps the noise would be elevated to the level of discussion. It is as if one person proclaims the superiority of not drinking, and another advocates drinking daily, but neither specify whether they are talking about water, moonshine, or antifreeze.
